MARCAN was a 5 year research project that investigated the role of offshore groundwater
in the geomorphic evolution of continental margins.

MARCAN was a Starting Grant project supported by the European Research Council.
It started in January 2017 and was led by Aaron Micallef.

Geomorphology

Groundwater as a geomorphic agent.

Offshore Hydrogeology

Topographically-driven meteoric recharge as an important driver of offshore groundwater systems.

Objectives

MARCAN addresses the hypothesis that topographically-driven meteoric groundwater plays a key role in the geomorphic development of passive continental margins.
